Glacier Light, Jungfraujoch
30×20cm - oil on linen mounted to alumnium panel.
This was painted at the so-called “Top of Europe” - Jungfraujoch, 4,200 meters above sea level. Richie and I took a mountain train through the rock and stepped out onto a glacier that stretched for miles. I was in shorts and trainers, totally unprepared.
The light was blinding - literally. I ended up sunburning my retinas from the snow glare and could barely see properly for two days. I probably won’t paint in conditions like that again. But I’m glad I did it once.
It was surreal. Nothing but white, sky, and silence. This painting is a postcard from that moment - a reminder of how strange and beautiful the world can be when you say yes to the adventure.
